Society Cleaners' Art Deco architecture has been featured in a museum exhibit at the Frost Art Museum, in a fashion shoot and in professional photographers' architectural studies. It is now the Coral Gables boutique dry cleaners' turn to be the setting for a movie.

The opening scenes of a motion picture detailing the history of an immigrant story were recently filmed in our premises. It seemed very important for us to support independent film making when the producer is a woman with a great artistic vision and a wonderful script.  A confidentiality contract does not allow our company to reveal the title, producer's name nor studio. The film is obviously in its early stages. 

For legal reasons and to preserve the sound requirements, we were not allowed to take pictures during the actual filming, the actors, dolly, sound system and lighting.  Care was taken by the studio to protect our customers' clothes, covering them with a heavy plastic material.

We will keep everyone updated about the future release.

Your Safety at Society Cleaners

Society Cleaners, out of an abundance of caution and concern with customers and staff, stays current with the research conducted by the CDC. It studies the airborne transmission of COVID 19.

Existing interventions to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2 address transmission both through close contact and airborne drops. Among the measures the CDC recommends are social distancing, the use of masks, hand hygiene, surface cleaning, disinfection, ventilation, and avoidance of crowded indoor spaces, especially. Enclosed spaces can increase the concentration of suspended droplets. Society Cleaners is not an enclosed space since our windows and doors remain open, a constant breeze runs through the premises. There is no possibility of suspended droplets that would cause airborne transmission, given our cross-current ventilation.  Our customers are asked to wear masks and maintain a social distance when visiting our premises. 

(1)       Our personnel wears masks and is required to to use antibacterial soap and solutions for handwashing

(2)       We use special hand sanitizers and practice social distancing.

(3)       Customers are asked to stay six feet apart.

(4)       Our counters are disinfected with Lysol and other products as soon as we are done with ticketing clothes.

(5)       We use antibacterial air sprays.

Dry Cleaning in the Times of Covid

 

The CDC and WHO state the dry cleaning and laundry processes kill most viruses.  The CDC advises that the dry cleaning, which includes cleaning and pressing, is effective eliminating viruses. 

According to Dan Eisen, "The heat used in all finishing would most likely destroy all germs, viruses and bacteria. The temperature of the steam created reaches temperatures of over 300 degrees Farenheit. It would seem that steam tunnels would be an efficient way of disinfecting." He adds: "strong solvents such as perchloroethylene have less problems with bacteria." Eisen, a published author and consultant is the former chief garment analyst for the National Cleaners Association.
